Medium Art Center Announces May Group Collage Exhibition “Torn Apart”
Location: Medium Art Center, 110 S. School Street, Ukiah, California
Medium Art Center is proud to present its upcoming May juried group exhibition, Torn Apart, exploring visual artwork in the medium of collage.
Torn Apart is a group exhibition celebrating the artistic method of collage. Artists in this medium cut and tear elements from disparate pieces to create a new form, tell a new story, or communicate a new message.
The exhibition will run from May 1st through June 2nd, 2026. Free and open to the public. Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Opening reception on Friday, May 1st, during Ukiah’s First Friday Art Walk. The event will have music by Alterium, a community collage project, and light nibbles and drinks.

The Lot On Main

Come by the Lot on Main for our May Day Art Market & Live Music event on Friday, May 1st from 5-8 PM. We’re featuring live music by the Redbud Band and our outdoor craft fair and vendor market. Get limited edition The Lot On Main tote bags and t-shirts while supplies last! Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.
The event is free and family friendly. The Lot on Main is located at the corner of Standley and Main Streets, with ample free parking available in the parking lot across the street from this venue.

High School Photography show at Art Center Ukiah and Corner Gallery front windows – May 2026
‘Convergence’ is the title of this year’s High School Student Photography show at Art Center Ukiah and the Corner Gallery. Lech Slocinski, the photography teacher at Ukiah High School, explains the idea behind the title… “We start with a digital photograph, we process the image in Photoshop, and then enhance it even more with AI,” he says. “This is the point where techniques and technologies blend together, and students have been working exploring these three different aspects of photography throughout the school year.”
The big question that Lech addresses with his students, as well as the audience, is “Where is the line between the domain of photography and AI-enhanced art?” On the spectrum between purists and open approach photographers, Lech definitely leans towards the ones who explore the options. “Why,” he asks, “would you limit yourself to one ‘accurate’ photographic image… since every moment in real life is unique? The second you see something, it changes.To me, art is an unpredictable journey where creativity and tools guide one’s vision.”
The First Friday opening celebration of ‘Convergence’ will be on May 1 from 5-8pm. The work will be displayed in both the front windows of the Corner Gallery, as well as in the Art Center Ukiah space in the rear of the gallery. Live music will be presented throughout the evening by Teddy Keez. The Corner Gallery is located at 201 S State Street in Ukiah.

Ukiah Branch Library

My Tong: Fossil Works in Ceramic – Art in the Anthropocene Age
The Ukiah Branch Library invites the community to join us for our Art Walk opening on Friday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. The library will feature a ceramic show by local artist, My Tong.
Tong gets inspiration from looking at fossils of animals and plants from long ago. She sculpts creatures that could have existed, fusing them with human-made objects from the Anthropocene Age, our current era in which humanity has become a planetary force of change. Tong’s work becomes her own interpretive record of the interdependence between living beings and their environment.
The branch will host live music by Deanne California and a Pinch Pot Workshop hosted by The Clay Pot Studio, a new ceramics studio that’s coming soon to Ukiah. During the Art Walk opening, guests can shop the robust book sale, hosted by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library. This art exhibition is free to the public, open to all ages, and is sponsored by the kind and generous support of the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library.

Join us a Bona Marketplace on First Friday as we host “Out of the Ordinary,” new works by Jeanne Kennedy, featuring Dimensional Compositions.

Grace Hudson Museum

Spend a part of your May First Friday Art Walk at the Grace Hudson Museum. It will the last opportunity on a First Friday to see our current exhibition, Momím Wené: Medicine Water, featuring the artwork of 30 California Native artists reflecting on the significance of water in their various tribal cultures. The show includes a few Valley Pomo artists. As a nod to upcoming Cinco de Mayo, we’ve invited Grupo Folclorico de Mendocino and Grupo Folclorico de Niños to perform from 6:00 to 6:45 just in front of the Museum.
For the rest of the evening, Suni Robin Smith will be in the Momím Wené gallery gracing us with her harp. You’ll also be able to spend time discovering or getting reacquainted with our core galleries, featuring Grace Hudson’s artwork, exquisite Pomo basketry, and Carpenter-Hudson family history. Also enjoy an evening walk in our Wild Gardens, on your own or possibly with our gardens’ docent, Ziggy. Light refreshments will be available. First Fridays at the Grace Hudson Museum are always free all day and evening.
