Plenty of parking in the lots on Oak Street, Main Street and School Street. The Streetscape is nearing completion and the restaurants are open for outdoor and indoor dining. UVNA 104 N School StAnnie is an author, illustrator, and creator of The Spacious Tarot Deck. With her background in theatre and music, she uses her experience to influence her stories and artwork. She especially loves writing about myth, and creativity, she loves lyrical prose, and spending time with friends in nature. Originally from the Napa Valley, she lives and works in Ukiah. Alex Thomas Plaza @ School and StephensonJuly First Friday will celebrate the completion of thirty mosaics enhancing the trash and recycling containers in Alex Thomas Plaza. Elizabeth Raybee was commissioned by North Coast Opportunities, the Arts Council of Mendocino County and the City of Ukiah to create mosaics delivering both Emergency Preparedness messages and celebrating the Arts, cultural diversity and natural beauty of our community. Raybee and her assistants, Aliyson Brooker, Eva Strauss-Rosen, Nancy Horowitz Bertsch, Cherilyn Evans, Joel Cohen and Will Cutlip, will be there to greet visitors, lead tours and answer questions.
Deep Valley Arts Collective 522 E Perkins StMedium Community Art Gallery Grand Opening, 522 E. Perkins Street, Ukiah. Please join the Deep Valley Arts Collective during the First Friday Art Walk for the grand opening of Medium, a community art gallery located in the Pear Tree Center in Ukiah. Artists who submitted to the show were asked to introduce themselves through works of art that told their stories and the show features artists from all over the county. The Deep Valley Arts Collective is a Mendocino County-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that believes in the transformative power of making and experiencing art. Formed in 2020, our mission is to create a culture that nurtures artists’ development and success while contributing to the well-being of our community. Corner Gallery 201 S State StMimi Booth at the Corner Gallery: “Wandering and Pondering”, an environmental tribute pairing ceramic art and photography, is the theme for the south window of the Corner Gallery for the month of July and August. Featured artist, Mimi Booth, states that she is seeking to understand each location, viewed through her camera lens. She is informed by patterns, textures, and geological formations of western landscapes that inspire related ceramic vessels. Imbedded in each piece is an interpretation of a landscape and a sense of gratitude for preserved public lands.
And Spencer Brewer and Esther Siegel, in the North window of the Corner Gallery, show their latest assemblages including “Toot Suite” an ensemble made of multiple horns, and “Diversity,” masks mounted in a frame.
Art Center Ukiah 201 S State St At Art Center Ukiah, the community exhibit for July and August is “Pieces,” a variety of media which use several or even many pieces to create a work of art. Quilts, mosaics, collage, stained glass and assemblage make a fun exhibit for the summer season.The featured young artist is Lily Atkins, working in diverse media, drawing fascinating faces. In her own words, “What the inside of my mind is like.”

Ukiah Library 105 N Main StThe Ukiah Branch Library is hosting “Art in the Time of Pandemic” on Friday, July 2nd from 5-7 PM. Come view an exhibit of acrylic paintings that were created during the pandemic by the ever remarkable local artist, Charles Montgomery.This event is in partnership with First Friday Art Walk Ukiah. Greater Ukiah Business and Tourism Alliance at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center 200 S School StreetUkiah Kirsten Gantzel moved from Louisiana to Ukiah, in Mendocino County in 2001. She is a multimedia artist. Having been raised in a community of potters in La Jolla, California, she learned to work with clay in her mothers’ pottery studio at home. The recurring theme in her work is water, swimming and sea life influenced by her childhood by the sea. Kirsten Gantzel studied in Paris and New York. Her work embodies the experiences of living and working in places like Brazil, Denmark, Italy and Kenya. She travels with a sketchbook to record her impressions of everyday life. Kirsten Gantzel expresses the essence of the humanity around her. She works intuitively from memory, guided by impulse and emotion.
The Greater Ukiah Business and Tourism Alliance is also showing the work of acrylic painter Mary Lou Mangini. Sculpture stands welded by Lorenzo Ayala and ceramics by Amanda Williams.
