August Art Walk

MEDIUM ART CENTER – “Suburban Driveways” Group Photography Exhibition Art Walk on Friday, August 1st from 5–8 PM

“Suburban Driveways” group photography exhibition continues at Medium Art Center. The art center’s current exhibition has been extended through August.

MEDIUM Art Center presents Suburban Driveways, a group photography show. Featuring work by Rob Beckstrom, Jeremy Ronco, Tim Mitchell, Meredith Hudson, and Chris Pugh, explores forgotten corners, patched fences, and crooked lawn ornaments that hold stories often overlooked. “This show isn’t about nostalgia,” said curator Chris Pugh. “It’s about the stuff we walk past every day. These scenes are plain, but they carry weight, somewhere between memory and neglect.”

With a dry sense of humor, the work reflects a shared visual approach, with each artist bringing a different voice to the table. The result is a collection that feels both familiar and strange, mundane yet uneasy, static yet quietly charged with meaning.

Medium Art Center will stay open late for August’s First Friday Art Walk, Friday August 1st. Refreshments will be available during the event.  Located in the Pear Tree Center at 518 E. Perkins Street, Ukiah. Admission is free. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 8:00 p.m.

Medium Art Center is a project of the Deep Valley Arts Collective, a Mendocino County-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that believes in the transformative power of making and experiencing art. Bona Marketplace – Friday, August 1st from 5-8 PM

Bio of artist Ruth Brazil: Hi, my name is Ruth Brazil! I am a local artist from Potter Valley, and I am excited to show my work at Bona Marketplace in Ukiah from August to September. Growing up the daughter of a large animal veterinarian, I spent much of my childhood on ranches across Mendocino and surrounding counties. Gaining an appreciation for the ranching community inspired my creative perspective today.

I first discovered my love of watercolor painting as a high school freshman. I continued practicing watercolors while also learning to paint with pencils and oils at Mendocino College. My goal as an artist is to honor the ranching heritage and natural beauty of Northern California through my work. As a recent business graduate from The Master’s University, I look forward to this summer and the opportunity of blending my creativity with entrepreneurship as I grow my art business.

Bona will feature live keyboard music by Teddy Keez.

Bona Marketplace is located at 116 W. Standley Street, Ukiah. For more information, please call (70) 463-1113.

The Grace Hudson Museum – Friday, August 1st from 5-8 PM

We’ll be opening a new pop-up exhibition featuring the nature paintings of Linda MacDonald. A veteran and accomplished artist, Linda was featured in our Back-to-the-Land exhibition in 2025, and helped us jury many of the artists in our current show, The Art of Wonder, which has been a big hit. The Art of Wonder features 15 contemporary Mendocino County artists working in diverse mediums. Their artwork may connect one to a place of spirituality, to the rhythms of nature, or to pondering the particles and energy that comprise the building blocks of our universe. Some of the art will stimulate in the viewer a fleeting moment of clarity around the mysteries of life, love, and other deep emotions, maybe even to a stronger appreciation for our shared humanity.

Guitarist, singer/songwriter Clay Hawkins returns as our musical guest, accompanied by Andrew Robertson on upright bass and harmonies. You’ll also be able to spend time discovering or getting reacquainted with our core galleries, featuring Grace Hudson’s artwork, exquisite Pomo basketry, and Carpenter-Hudson family history. Also enjoy summer wildflowers in our Wild Gardens. Light refreshments will be available. First Fridays at the Grace Hudson Museum are always free all day and evening.

The Grace Hudson is located at 431 S. Main St., Ukiah. For more information, please call (707) 467-2836.

W Real Estate – Friday, August 1st from 5-8 PM

W Real Estate will feature artist Roy Scarborough.

Bio of artist Roy Scarborough: My name is Roy Scarborough. I started painting about 4 years ago. I am 74 years young. For me, art is all about letting go of any inhibitions, and letting my creativity and imagination run free! I have always enjoyed all forms of art, but have been drawn to all things abstract. After examining and researching various ways to express myself, I chose fluid art, and abstract expression. My Journey has taught me to be patient with myself because frustration along the way is a given. But the joy of using your God-given gift of creative expression is worth any frustration! Of course, abstract is not something everyone can relate to. But I hope that at least some of my work will bring some joy to your day. And who knows maybe it will stir up at least a little appreciation of the abstract we all have deep inside.

W Real Estate is located at 131 N. State St., Ukiah. For more information, please call (707) 380-0003.

The Ukiah Library is Featuring “Solo Spin-Out,” the Captivating Art of Tamsen Donner on Friday, August 1st from 5-7 PM

For over 50 years, art has been an anchor for Donner and a way to order the cacophony of the world. She enjoys the sheer pleasure of studying something and imagining what it could become. Tamsen’s colorful and whimsical oil paintings transport the viewer to a different place and time where the ordinary becomes the extraordinary. When asked what she enjoys most about her art, Tamsen says she loves being the ruler of her own tiny empire of paint.

The Branch will host live music by Will Siegel’s Mendo Jazz Collective. Guests can enjoy an all-ages mini canvas painting program and a book sale by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library as they browse the Art Walk. This exhibition is free to the public, open to all ages, and is sponsored by the generous support of the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library.
