ART WALK: emphasis on ART and WALK. Ukiah is a very walkable town.

Join artists and their hosts for an evening of art, music and refreshments as you stroll from one venue to the next; each showcasing local art and artistry. Held in Historic Downtown Ukiah on the first Friday of each month, the First Friday Art Walk is the perfect way to relax your body, mind and soul. This enjoyable evening begins at 5:00 p.m. and promises to delight your senses; all while enjoying the company of others. 

Grace Hudson Museum, 431 S Main Street, Ukiah

Come spend some of your June First Friday Art Walk at the Grace Hudson Museum. We’ll be opening a pop-up exhibition in our Public Room featuring artwork by Round Valley R.A.N.C.H. artists — R.A.N.C.H. stands for Ranch Art Nurturing Cultural Heritage. The pop-up was organized by Round Valley resident, Marjo Wilson, who will also provide live music with her Marjo Wilson Trio. In addition to all that, see our current special exhibition, Deep Roots, Spreading Branches: Fine Woodworking from the Krenov School, and have a look at our core galleries featuring Grace Hudson’s artwork, exquisite  Pomo basketry, and Hudson-Carpenter family history. You might also want to take a stroll around our Wild Gardens and see which spring flowers are in bloom. Light refreshments will be available. On First Fridays, the Museum is always free for everyone, all day and evening!

Ukiah Branch of the Mendocino County Library, 105 N Main Street 

The Ukiah Branch Library staff invites the community to join us for Art Walk Ukiah on Friday, June 7 from 5 – 7 p.m.This month, we will feature Buffie Campbell-Schmidt and her art of traditional Pomo basket weaving. Schmidt is a basket weaver, wild food and medicine gatherer, and Northern Pomo Language Teacher from the Sherwood Valley Rancheria and Noyo Reservation. Schmidt is a descendant of the Yokayo Rancheria, where she learned Pomo basket weaving from her mother – a legacy passed down through many generations. She honors the memory of her ancestors by speaking their old language and continuing to gather willow, dogwood, redbud, white root, acorns, and wild medicines. She feels her ancestors with her wherever she goes. The branch will host live music by Steve Smith and an all-ages basket twining craft program. Enjoy a book sale by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library as you browse the art walk. This exhibit is free to the public, open to all ages, and sponsored by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library.

There’s always a lot going on at The Lot! Check out unique artists booths and stroll with the community. Support them through the construction, parking across the street in the City lot is free

Corner Gallery Ukiah, June 2024  “Scene – through our eyes” J.V. Magoon and Debbie Vogel

Two long time Lake County artists present from their extensive works.  J. V. Magoon moved to Lake County, CA from the San Francisco Bay Area in 1978.  Since that time she has been a participating artist in many shows and competitions, and has garnered numerous awards. She enjoys working in many media, over the last few years she has concentrated on her pastel landscapes.  Magoon’s soapstone sculpture is also featured at the gallery. Debbie Vogel is a member of the Lake County Arts Council and the Mendocino County Art Association. Her current works are unique mosaics on dress forms using jewelry, beads, pearls, buttons and other found objects which are inspired by her grandmothers and great-grandmothers.  She also enjoys creating landscapes with pastels.  Meet Judy V Magoon and Debbie Vogel Friday June 7th 5pm – 8pm at opening reception.

Young Artist Wall:  Stephanie Holland, an early graduate of Sequoia Career Academy she focuses on landscapes and animal painting in oil and acrylic.

Dora Briley is the featured artist on the Mendocino County Arts Association’s pony wall Ukiah artist showing watercolor and acrylic paintings. Special guest artist Virginia MacIntosh shows new small works in acrylic. Art Center Ukiah June 2024 Celebrates “Pride Month “

Since 1970 June has been the month when LGBTQ+ people, their families and friends have gathered to celebrate with demonstrations of pride and to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.  Art Center Ukiah brings a multi dimension show of celebration.  A major installation of  “I AM” wall, features photographs of individuals with “I AM” statement in one word plus a QR code to share stories. Laura Fogg, with professional photographer, and Dane Nelson, organized this unique inter-active exhibit.  Other local artists and professionals exhibit their support.  Paintings by artists Janet Rosen, Jazzminh Moore and floral expression by Wil Gonzales, owner of W/E Flowers plus more paintings, photographs, sculpture and fabric art from local artist.

The PRIDE show is generously sponsored by Norman and Karen Rosen of Ukiah and a grant from the  Rykken and Skoll Memorial LBGTQ Fund from Sonoma County.

Paradigm, 312 N School Street 

Join the artists and makers at Paradigm, in the garden with their guests. Tim Hemlock with his amazing metal and wood Multi-media Visionary Art: exploring Divine Themes.

Miguel Savage and Alyra Rose with their eclectic mixed media art using collage, painting and sculpture. Miguel and Alyra will also be playing music for us. 

Medium Gallery, 518 E Perkins Street, Ukiah

The Deep Valley Arts Collective is pleased to announce their June group art exhibition titled “Portraits,” opening at MEDIUM Art Gallery in Ukiah and on display from June 7th through June 29th, 2024.

“Portraits” explores how artists interpret and capture individuals’ essence, stories, emotions, and identities. Portraits uniquely communicate a universal language transcending time and space, resonating with viewers across cultures and backgrounds. They aim to create an exhibition celebrating the human face’s power to convey stories, evoke emotions, and forge connections. All mediums are included. Opening Reception: First Friday Art Walk: Friday, June 7th, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Beverages and light refreshments available. Music by certone.
