Art Center Ukiah “Pushing The Limits Of Paper” – Friday, October 3, from 5 – 8 PM
Art Center Ukiah has assembled a tribute to that mass-produced item of no character that you stuff into a printer when you need a hard copy of something for distribution. Paper is a centuries-old medium that supports a wide variety of artistic expression. October’s exhibit shows diverse expressions with paper; from Theresa Whitehill’s combination of poetry and letterpress art to the wire armature and paper mache sculpture by Nancy McHone. Just a few enticing examples.
Live music presented throughout the evening by Chris Gibson and Char Jacobs.
Art Center Ukiah is located at 201 S. State Street Ukiah, in back of Corner Gallery.

An Homage to Small Creatures: Spotlighting the Neo-Naturalism Work of Diza Hope
The Ukiah Branch Library invites the community to join us for Art Walk Ukiah on Friday, October 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Library will feature an art exhibition of works on canvas and paper by local artist, Diza Hope.
The work of Hope is an exploration of some of the wonders of the natural world in Mendocino County and the flora and fauna that live here, paying homage to these small and stunning creatures and their natural environments. Her work observes and documents the way the natural environment reacts to change.
The Branch will host live piano music by Deanne California, an all-ages colored pencil on paper craft program, and a robust book sale hosted by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library. This month shoppers can fill up a bag for $5 or purchase a limited-edition mural tote bag for $20 and fill it up with items.
This art exhibition is free to the public, open to all ages, and is sponsored by the kind and generous support of the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library.

The Grace Hudson Museum – Friday, October 3, from 5 – 8 PM
Spend a part of your October First Friday Art Walk at the Grace Hudson Museum. We are delighted to welcome back singer/guitarist Steve Winkle, known for his eclectic mix of Classic Rock, R&B, Country, contemporary pop, and his own compositions.
Also, this will be the final First Friday to see our popular exhibition, The Art of Wonder. The show features 15 contemporary Mendocino County artists working in diverse mediums. Their artwork may connect one to a place of spirituality, to the rhythms of nature, or to pondering the particles and energy that comprise the building blocks of our universe. Some of the art may stimulate in the viewer a fleeting moment of clarity around the mysteries of life, love, and other deep emotions, maybe even to a stronger appreciation for our shared humanity.
You’ll also be able to spend time discovering or getting reacquainted with our core galleries, featuring Grace Hudson’s artwork, exquisite Pomo basketry, and Carpenter-Hudson family history. Also enjoy an evening walk in our Wild Gardens before Daylight Savings Time ends. Light refreshments will be available. First Fridays at the Grace Hudson Museum are always free all day and evening.

MEDIUM Art Center – Friday, October 3, from 5 – 8 PM
Haunted Art Show opens in Ukiah this October
MEDIUM Art Center will present its Haunted Art Show, a juried exhibition exploring the eerie, the playful, and the strange. The show opens Friday, Oct. 3, during the First Friday Art Walk, and runs through Nov. 1 at MEDIUM’s new downtown gallery, 110 S. School St.
Now in its fifth year, the October show has become one of MEDIUM’s most anticipated traditions. Each fall, the community looks forward to gathering at the gallery for artwork that embraces the season’s atmosphere of mystery and transformation.
This year’s Haunted Art Show showcases a diverse selection of artwork by local and regional artists. Visitors can expect a mix of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and mixed-media works.
This is more than a Halloween show. Haunted is about what we carry and what we can’t explain. It’s about using art to name the thing hiding under the bed. Dark art gives form to dread and lets us hold it at arm’s length. It can make the invisible visible, the taboo talkable. It’s also just a lot of fun to lean into the creepy stuff and see what happens.
Light refreshments will be served at the opening, with wine and beer available by donation.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours on the First Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
