Ukiah’s First Friday Art Walk: A Celebration of Art, Music, and Community

Ukiah, CA – Announcement  of  the upcoming First Friday Art Walk, a celebration of local art, music, and community in the heart of Historic Downtown Ukiah. On Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., art lovers and the community at large are invited to stroll through town, enjoying a wide array of art installations, performances, and special exhibitions at various venues.

This family-friendly event emphasizes both art and walk—highlighting Ukiah’s walkable downtown as participants explore creative expressions, all while savoring refreshments and live music. Each venue will showcase local artists, making this event a unique opportunity to experience Ukiah’s thriving art scene.

Featured Venues and Exhibitions:

The Lot

Location: Corner of Main Street and Standley Street

•        Visit the Clutts Co Dig Pile and various vendors that offer a unique art venue in the heart of downtown

Medium Art Gallery

•        “Altered Apparel” featuring handmade and upcycled clothing. This exhibition is a creative showcase of innovative, sustainable fashion, with select artists offering items for purchase during the opening event.

•        Live music by Powahouse (DJ) and refreshments provided by Saracina Wines.

Location: 518 E. Perkins Street, Ukiah

Gallery hours: Monday – Saturday, 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Bona Marketplace

•        Local artist Gina Greco will present her vibrant collection, Vivid Creatures: A Spectrum of Animal Portraits. Gina’s colorful works reflect her passion for art, which she has pursued since 2016.

Location: 116 W. Standley Street, Ukiah

Paradigm Collective

•        Enjoy the ceramic work of Heather Law, a local artist and Mendocino College instructor, showcasing her innovative ceramic vases in “The Oasis.” This exhibition addresses the environmental issue of plastic waste.

Location: 312 N. School Street, Ukiah

Grace Hudson Museum

•        “Earth Portraiture: Ray Strong’s Northern California Landscapes,” a captivating exhibition showcasing the essence of Northern California’s natural beauty. Explore landscapes from Mendocino County to the High Sierras, with live music by Pierre Archain and Barney McClure.

Free admission all day!

Ukiah Library

•        Young artist William Shi will exhibit his collection, Observer of Nature, featuring Chinese paintings on rice paper. Enjoy a live painting demonstration, music, and hands-on art activities.

Location: 105 N. Main Street, Ukiah

Time: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Corner Gallery

•        “Calming Rejuvenating Effect of Water” features works by Laura Fargey and Judy Chance Hope, both focusing on the calming presence of rivers in nature.

Special guest artist: Karen Falconer, showing watercolors.

Location: 201 S. State Street, Ukiah

Time: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Live harp music by Suni Smith.

Art Center Ukiah

•        The “Luna” exhibit explores celestial themes inspired by the recent Super Moons. Artists will display works in various mediums, capturing the magic of the moon.
